Meet Tim

I am running for Eugene City Council for a variety of reasons. Our city government needs an infusion of new people who can bring different experiences and fresh perspectives to the difficult decisions we face. I am a young, LGBT renter living downtown. I am an activist who works with several nonprofits in order to better our community. These are just a few perspectives missing on our council, and we need a different voice to be able to truly speak for Eugene.

If elected, I will work toward three priorities:

  1. Affordable, accessible, and available housing for all housing needs. No matter what your situation or budget, if you live in Eugene you deserve a roof over your head.

  2. Bold, radical investments in environmental protections to address climate change and help Eugene lead the way as Oregon's most ecologically friendly city.

  3. Strengthening the social supports that lay the foundation for a great city: direct support for the unhoused population, increasing access to substance abuse recovery and mental health centers, strengthening and implementing an emergency preparedness plan, and more.

In order to earn your support, I will have to work hard. I believe my record of community involvement, leadership roles in non-profits throughout Eugene, and my dedication to bringing effective and positive change to my city shows that I do not shy away from hard work. I hope you will join me in my commitment to bringing bold leadership and effective change to Eugene City Council.

My name is Tim Morris, and I am a candidate for Eugene City Council, Ward 1.

When I first arrived in Eugene, I came across a drum circle outside what I would soon learn was the Wayne Morse Free Speech plaza. This drum circle was right next to the Saturday Market, which gave me a wonderful window onto the food, culture, and people of Eugene. It did not take me long after finding that drum circle to fall in love with Eugene.

Through my years of volunteer work, I have learned the powerful importance of people who make a difference in their community. I value the sincerity and conviction of local activists who spend their limited time devoting energy to causes they truly believe in. This same passion is what I hope to bring to the Eugene City Council.

My community experience includes:

  • Founding member and elected leader of Lane County for Bernie Sanders 2016

  • Founding member and elected leader of Our Revolution Lane County

  • Founding member and board president of the Springfield Eugene Tenant Association

  • Citizen member of the Lane County Budget Committee

  • Citizen member of the Lane Community College Budget Committee

  • Former Chair and member of the Budget Committee of the Democratic party of Lane County

  • Citizen member representing market rate rentals to the HB 2001 and HB 2003 ("Resident Renter Market Rate") Rulemaking Advisory Committee

Professionally, my experience in the housing and mental/behavioral health fields has given me insight into Eugene's most important challenges. I have worked at:

  • Willamette Family (outpatient behavioral health program assistant)

  • Emergence (administrative specialist and relief Court Liaison to Lane County Adult Treatment Court)

  • Preferred Northwest Property Management (secretary/accounts payable)
